Soon, the Indian Army will be getting vehicles from an Indian private firm for the Russian Smerch Multi-Barrel Rocket launchers (MBRL) system. Notably, this will be the first time the Army will be getting the heavy duty and high mobility vehicles from Ashok Leyland.

The vehicles will be used for mounting Russian-built Smerch MBRL systems and also for other strategic missiles developed by the state-owned Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

This year, the Ministry of Defense contracted Ashok Leyland for the supply of 81 high mobility 10×10 vehicles for the Army.

“The delivery will start in this financial year and will be completed in the next financial year,” said Amandeep Singh, head of Defense for Ashok Leyland.
