The Indian Defense Ministry has cleared the proposal for 17 new “baffle” firing ranges. The estimated cost for such range stands at Rs 238 crore.
The firing ranges will be smaller in size and will be covered with walls to prevent stray bullets from hitting civilians living outside.
Seven out of 17 ranges will be in military stations, cantonments and in existing training grounds. Three range will be in Eastern Command (Kolkata) region, two in Northern Command, and one each in South-Western and Central Commands regions.
Currently, India has 60 similar firing ranges. The proposed firing range will be for 300-400m firing practice.
