India is now set to complete the deal for the procurement of anti-submarine warfare choppers. Nearly $2 billion has been sanctioned for the purchase of US choppers for anti-submarine warfare operations. The purchase will be made through the government to government route.
The negotiations on the Communications, Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) have moved forward and are in the final stage. Indian foreign and defense ministers are set to meet their counterparts in the US on July 6. The deal may be finalized later this year.
The helicopter selected for the deal is said to be the American-made Sikorsky S-70B multipurpose helicopter. It can perform various roles, and anti-submarine warfare capabilities are the ideal supporting factors to fit the Indian Navy requirements.
