For the first time in their history, armies from India, Pakistan, Russia and China will be conducting a joint military exercise as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The joint military exercise will be conducted in Russia and will be commenced from September.
The exercise is part of the SCO bid to increase the security ties between the nations and is aimed at learning new tactics and sharpening the existing tactics in fighting terrorism.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a Chinese organisation to increase political, economic and security ties with major Asian countries. It mainly focuses on building mutual trust between member nations.
It is to be noted that since 1947, India and Pakistan were never involved in a joint military exercise though both nations have worked together in UN peace missions.
