In order to increase its naval surveillance capabilities, India plans to buy 12 more Boeing P-8I aircraft from the United States. India is also looking to purchase nearly 1000 commercial aircraft from the US, in addition to purchases of oil and gas.

India will spend an estimated $5 billion a year for aircraft and $4 billion for the purchase of oil and gas.

The plan also is seen as the big mega deal as it involves large amounts of purchases, especially the P-8I, of which India is the largest operator outside the US.

The Indian Navy operates eight P-8I aircraft and employs it for various operations, such as maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare missions.
