The state-owned Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has said that it will build the Pinaka-3 by 2020.
The Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), which is part of the DRDO is heavily engaged in developing the upgraded variant of the Pinaka Multi Barrel Missile Launcher System. The Pinaka-3 will have an enhanced range of 75km with the guidance system.
“Currently, we are working on the rocket’s control and guidance system, which will be perfected in the coming months. Thereafter, the rocket will go through several trials, including user trials,” PK Mehta, director general, Armament Combat Engineering.
Just last month, an upgraded variant of the Pinaka MBRL system was tested successfully with a better range and guidance system. The current range of the Pinaka is just 40km and is not equipped with a navigation guidance system that can maneuver on its own during flight.
