As per the latest reports in the media, the Home Ministry has finally accepted the move to deploy Paramilitary Force National Security Guard in the Kashmir region to fight militants.
The deployment is said to be part of familiarizing the elite NSG for operating in the region of Kashmir. It will also help keep their skills sharp. Adding to that, the NSG will also train Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) State Police and the CRPF in carrying out operations in densely populated areas.
NSG was established in 1984, following Operation Blue Star. The National Security Guard is a special unit of the Indian Special Forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The primary reason for its conception was to combat terrorist activities with a view to protecting states against internal disturbances.
Special Forces like Para, Garud and MARCOS are already in the valley and are successfully carrying out the flushing of militants from the region.
