Infrared tracking System for Su-30MKI to be built locally

May 29, 2018

India will now develop the indigenous long-range dual-band infrared imaging search and track system (IRST) for the frontline combat aircraft of the Indian Air Force Su-30mki.

The decision was made during the recent Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting where approval was given for the design and development of the IRST.

The new IRST will increase the capabilities of aircraft to detect low RCS aircraft like Chengdu J-20 which possesses a great threat to India as China is now fielding them in large numbers near the Indian borders. India has mainly deployed the Sukhois near the Chinese as its the most advanced aircraft of the IAF inventory and important to upgrade them.
