IAF Spitfire to fly again

May 24, 2018

After inducting the Dakota in the vintage squadron of the Indian Air Force, the IAF is now planning to induct one Spitfire into the vintage unit to showcase them in the public events.

The restoration of the aircraft will be carried out by a foreign firm from the UK which also restored the previous aircraft of the vintage squadron. As per the information aircraft bearing, Tail No NH-631, which is currently in Palam Airforce Museum, will be restored.

The restoration will include the stripping down of the aircraft and cleaning, refurbishing and carrying out non-destructive testing and installing a new engine, wires and much more.

The same aircraft Spitfire Mark-VIII was procured in 1945 by the Royal Indian Air Force.
