The state-owned Defense Research and Development Organization has claimed that it will be delivering the Rustom-2 UAV drone to armed forces by 2020.
The DRDO Chairman S Christopher said that “Rustom II has completed one test at Chitradurga in Karnataka. At present, the bird (basic UAV system) is being perfected. Attempts are also being made to increase the altitude. By the end of this year, we will be ready with the bird, after which the focus will be on the mechanical systems on it.”
The Rustom-2 is an indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle developed by DRDO and Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE). It is developed for all three wings of the armed forces and is capable of carrying out missions like intelligence gathering, surveillance and recon operations.
