An Indian Navy IL-38SD aircraft made a successful emergency landing at Moscow’s Zhukovsky airport in Russia. The aircraft failed to deploy its nose gears and landed with its main gears only. No one got injured and the aircraft will need some repairs in the front section.
As per the navy, the aircraft was in Russia for Overhaul (OH) and Mid Life Upgradation (MLU). However, no Indian Navy crew was on board during the sortie though they are present in Russia. The aircraft was on an initial test flight with an all-Russian test crew. The Navy is now assessing the damages it has caused to the aircraft.
In 2012, the Indian Navy signed a deal with Rosoboronexport to upgrade the Il-38SD “Sea Dragon”.
