In a big development, the Indian Air Force on Friday issued Requests For Information (RFI) for 110 fighter aircraft. The RFI is the first step in any procurement. In this phase, various manufacturers will provide information as per the set norms and criteria.
The hunt for the aircraft come just before the much awaited “Defense Expo-2018”. After the RFI, the next phase will be RFP, trials, negotiations and then clearance from the “Ministry of Defense”.
As per the RFI document, IAF will procure 82 single-seater and 28 twin-seater aircraft from a vendor in which 16 will be in flyaway condition and the rest will be manufactured in India under the “Make in India” initiative.
Companies like MIG, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and SAAB are expected to pitch in their respective aircraft.
