In a bid to strengthen indigenization, India has now decided to produce spare parts for the carrier-borne aircraft Mig-29K in India itself. It will also give a boost to “Make in India.”
The plan is to manufacture spare parts within India itself by small and medium industries. Those spare parts will be made available for aircraft which is in operation for the Indian Navy and Air Force.
India is already pushing hard for the venture with Russian companies to make these components in India. There have already been a series of meetings at the India-Russia military-industrial conference at the DefExpo 2018, Chennai to discuss the joint venture plan.
At present India have to rely on Russia for spare parts which are not cost effective and also degrade operational capabilities of aircraft for some time till the parts arrive.
