In a bid to step up ties with former Soviet block country, Ukraine, which is also one of the major weapons part suppliers, India signed defence contracts worth Rs 130 crore. The contracts were signed during the 10th edition of the Defence Expo 2018 at Chennai.
Ukraine State-owned company Ukroboronprom signed the contract with Bharat Electronics Limited of India. The contract is for the modernization of armored vehicles with new components and for upgrading radar and air defence systems to meet the current scenario requirements.
A joint research team for developing sonar and radar devices will also be set up. It is to be noted that this is between BEL and Spetstecnoexport (A part of Ukroboronprom only).
