With an eye on deepening the ties with India’s major arms supplier, Russia, Indian Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is now all set to visit Russia in the current portfolio for the first time. The visit will be aimed at discussing various issues in the military and security sector.
She will kick off her visit starting April 3rd and will be discussing various issues related to military and strategic cooperation.
The main eye will be on finalizing the S-400 “Triumf” Surface to Air Missiles deal and bringing back the FGFA project on track. Besides that deal for the Mi-17V5 helicopters, KA-226T multi-purpose helicopters are also in the pipeline.
It is to be noted that Russia has offered to sell 22 Mig-29 aircraft to India as a solution for depleting the IAF combat squadron fleet.
