In a major success, security forces on Sunday gunned down 11 militants in two separate encounters in Kashmir valley. Some top commanders of the terror groups were also killed in the encounter. The encounter broke out in the early morning and lasted more than 20 hours in Sophian of Southern Kashmir. Three Army jawans were also martyred.

“Among the militants killed are Ishfaq Malik and Rayees Thokar. They were responsible for his death,”- Lt Gen A K Bhatt, Corps Commander of XV Corps.
During the encounter operations, clashes also erupted near the encounter sites and in retaliation 4 stone pelters were also killed. This is notably the biggest encounter operation of this year.
