IAF lands Do228 at the new Pakyong Airport
In a leap forward, the Indian Air Force landed its Dornier DO-228 Light Cargo Transport Aircraft at the recently activated Pakyong airport located in Sikkim close to the Indo-China Border.
The landing was part of the testing phase before the airport is activated for operational use. The 19-seater Dornier performed the landing and takeoff successfully. All the systems worked well. The airport is located in between the mountains and the visibility remains low most of the time making aircraft operations very hard to perform.
”This is the beginning of aviation connectivity for Sikkim,” -an official said.
The airfield will be used for the civil purpose for the connectivity but it is also to be noted that the airfield is located at a strategically important place and provide great advantages during wartime.
