The government of India is expected to clear the deal for the purchase of 40 Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS). The system has performed extremely well in the winter trials in Sikkim. This system is developed by the state-owned Defense Research and Development Organization.
The Army has also given the green signal for the procurement. The 40 ATAGS will be of the initial stage where it will be evaluated and if any changes and modifications are required, they will be incorporated in the later version.
The ATAGS has also completed its summer trials in the desert of Pokhran. During its summer trials, it achieved a world record by hitting a target at a 47 km distance.
The ATAGS is 155 MM (Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System) gun developed for the Indian Army that can hit targets at long distances.
