First IAF female fighter pilot goes solo in Mig-21

On Wednesday, history was created when the first Indian female fighter pilot flew solo in the Mig-21 Bison aircraft at Jamnagar Airbase of Gujarat.

The Sortie was part of her first training solo sortie, in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

She is one of the three in the first batch of female pilots, besides Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh, who was inducted in Indian Air Force fighter squadron on June 18, 2016.

The first batch of female fighter pilots were supposed to fly Sukhoi but later on, Airforce Chief Marshal Dhanao said in a statement that they will fly the Mig-21 Bison aircraft.

Currently, two more female fighter pilots are undergoing training in Hawk aircraft and are likely to go solo next year in a combat aircraft.
