The Ministry of Defence has cleared the proposal for the procurement of the P-8I Training Solution for the Indian Navy. The proposal was cleared on Thursday under which the P-8I Training Solution will be procured to train Navy personnel.
The system will be procured with a 10-year comprehensive maintenance service with an estimated cost of Rs 1,949.32 crore.
The P-8I simulation is very close to an actual aircraft and can simulate various missions and the Low-Intensity Conflict Electronic Warfare System (LICEWS) simulation.
The Indian Navy is currently the largest operator of P-8I anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The Navy inducted the aircraft in 2013 to replace the Tu-142 aircraft. At present, the Navy operates 10 such aircraft and will procuring more to safeguard its water territories.
The aircraft is currently the most advanced anti-submarine warfare aircraft that can perform maritime recon and surveillance operations. It can be armed with ASHMs and torpedoes.
