The Indian Air Force has restarted its hunt for the six mid-air refueler at an estimated cost of $2 billion .IAF currently is crippling with its low fleet of mid-air refueler tankers that extend the strategic reach of aircraft.
It is to be noted that the hunt is not new. Twice it was cancelled, of which last time it was due to the price and other issues.
A Request for Information (RFI) was issued on Thursday by Indian Air Force for six tankers along with supportive equipment. Though the Request For Proposal (RFP) will be issued only after March 30 and till then companies are allowed to fulfill the RFI criteria.
Indian Air Force currently operates Il-78MKI as its mid-air tanker which it inducted in 2003-2004 but in small numbers.
