India may finalize AWACS deal with Israel soon
India may soon finalize the deal with Israel for the procurement of two new Airborne Early Warning Systems Radars. They will be fitted on IL-76 aircraft which will be procured from Russia.
As per the recent reports, India is likely to discuss the deal with Israel when the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu will be on an official visit to India on January 13, 2018.
The deal is worth Rs 7,000 crore but has been struck due to an increase in the price of the aircraft as well as the radar.
The AWACS is named as A-50 and is capable of detecting, tracking air targets and surface ships and alerting military command of air and surface threats. The aircraft can also serve as an airborne command post. Such system plays an important role in terms of alertness.
