DRDO develops truck mounted laser weapon system
Achieving a great milestone, the state-owned Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) has developed a truck-mounted laser weapon system. The project is still in the initial stage and will go through several changes for operational uses. Once inducted, it will be able to shoot down enemy missiles, drones, aircraft and much more.
The DRDO has recently conducted successful tests of the laser weapon system which was mounted on a truck. The system is based on electronic circuitry. It is also called directed energy weapon.
Not only DRDO, many private firms like Kalyani Group and Rolls-Royce are also working on developing directed energy weapons or DEWs.
The DEW’s are the weapons of future that can change the whole scenario of wars. Such systems are also cheap and compact enough to deploy anywhere at less time. The reaction time to act against a target will be exceptional in such systems.
