BrahMos supersonic cruise missile speed to be increased
In a recent interview, CEO and MD of BrahMos Aerospace Sudhir Mishra revealed that BrahMos supersonic cruise missile speed can be increased to 3.5 mach from the current 2.8 mach. However, it will take around two years to develop the tech for speeding up the cruise missile.
During the interview, he also revealed that BrahMos speed can be increased to mach 5 as well in a few years. The materials and engines of the missiles will have to be optimized to attain the desired target of speed.
The BrahMos aerospace is already working on developing the scramjet engine for BrahMos which will make it more lethal in terms of speed.
BrahMos is currently the fastest operational supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia. It is currently in operation with all the three wings of the Indian armed forces. Recently the air-launched version of the missile was also tested.
