On Tuesday, India achieved one more major milestone by testing the Akash surface-to-air missile with new indigenous radio frequency seeker. It was tested from Complex-III of Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in the afternoon against a UAV ‘Banshee’ which was successfully destroyed.
“The radars, telemetry and electro-optical systems along the coast have tracked and monitored all the health parameters of the missile,”- as per an official statement.
The Indian Army has already inducted the new system with the new indigenous seeker and very soon the Air Force will also conduct it.
Meanwhile, India has also developed the technology to develop any kind of surface-to-air missile defense system.
The Akash is a mid-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system being built by India’s state-owned Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Its primary users are the Indian Air Force and Indian Army.
