1 Lakh crore money saved with ‘Make in India’ in defense
With the “Make in India” initiative, India has saved nearly one Lakh crore in the defense sector. The initiative of Narendra Modi was focused on producing defense equipment in India itself which will also save money.
In the last 2 years, as many as six air defense and anti-tank missile equipment have been built indigenously by the state-owned Defense Research and Development Organization. These have also saved more than Rs 1 lakh crore worth of foreign exchange money.
Also it is to note that the Indian Navy is one of the greatest users of indigenous equipment. The amount of Indian-made assets in the Navy is very high compared other branches of the armed forces. The Indian Army is also gradually starting to use the indigenous equipment. The Air Force is still heavily relying on foreign equipment to meet their need.
The “Make in India” is not just about making equipment in India, it is also about bringing new technologies in production that can help in the long run.
