Finally, the long-awaited contract for the delivery of 200 Ka-226 multirole helicopters as well as Mi-171A2 helicopters will be signed in the coming months. Both India and Russia agreed to finalize the contract soon. The deal is already facing lots of delays.
“We will sign a contract for the delivery of 200 Ka-226 helicopters for the Indian Defence Ministry later this year, but most likely in early 2018,” said Russian Helicopters CEO Andrei Boginsky.
The deal is about $1 billion for 200 Ka-226T helicopters. The agreement was signed between India and Russia in October 2016 during BRICS summit in Goa but was finalized this year.
The KA-226T helicopter is a light multirole helicopter with very high safety standards. The helicopter has excellent maneuverability and is very easy to fly. It is powered by 580 h.p. FADEC-equipped Arrius 2G1 engines by Turbomeca which enables the helicopter to land or take-off safely if one engine fails.
