In a bid to increase its capabilities, the Indian Army is now looking to procure 60 unmanned aerial vehicles. The Army has also issued a Request For Information (RFI) for its requirements.
As per the RFI document, the drones should have a range of 200 km with operational altitudes of 15,000 feet. The RFI also adds that the drones should be based on proven or matured tech. The drones will be developed and manufactured by an Indian company under the “Make in India” initiative.
The Request for Proposal will be issued next year in January after assessing the information received from various vendors. In the proposal phase, the Army will evaluate various drones and then a final decision will made.
Besides the drones, the Army has also issued tender for 600 mini-drones for its troops stationed near the LOC and LAC.
